Supply rail and logic-level compatibility
The 4.5V minimum supply means this buffer does not run from a 3.3V rail — it needs a regulated 5V supply. Input thresholds are 5V CMOS/TTL compatible; a 3.3V logic signal will not reliably cross the VIH(min) level at 5V VCC. If the design uses a mixed 3.3V/5V bus, a level-shifting buffer (such as the SN74LVTH series) is the correct choice. The 3-state output control (active-low output enable) lets multiple buffers share a common data bus without contention.
