Supply voltage and logic thresholds — what they mean for the BOM
The SN74LV04AD: The 2 V to 5.5 V supply range lets this part bridge 5 V domains without a separate level shifter, provided the input thresholds align: the low-level threshold is 0.5 V and the high-level threshold is 1.5 V (at 5 V supply). That means a 5 V CMOS output driving this inverter sees a valid high at 1.5 V, so no pull-up is needed. The 20 µA quiescent current is negligible for battery-powered designs — the power budget here is the switching current, not the standby draw.
Lifecycle and compliance
The SN74LV04AD carries an Active lifecycle status and ROHS3 compliance. The 74LV series is a mature, widely second-sourced logic family, so supply continuity through independent distribution is stable — no LTB risk for current designs.
