What this quad latch does in a 5V control path
The SN74LS75D is a quad D-type transparent latch from the 74LS family, packing four independent latches into a single 16-SOIC package. Each latch presents a differential output pair — true and complement — which is useful for driving balanced lines or feeding a downstream differential receiver without an extra inverter. Propagation delay is 9ns typical, fast enough for moderate-speed address/data latching in 5V control systems running below 50 MHz. The supply range is 4.75V to 5.25V, matching standard 5V TTL rails. Output drive capability is 400µA sourcing and 8mA sinking — typical for 74LS. Fan-out to standard TTL loads is adequate, but driving a heavily loaded bus or long trace may require a buffer.
Package, temperature grade, and board-fit considerations
Housed in a 16-SOIC (0.154-inch body width, 3.90 mm) surface-mount package. The pin pitch is compatible with standard SOIC land patterns and reflow profiles. No exposed pad — thermal management is through the leadframe and board copper. Rated for commercial temperature range: 0°C to 70°C. This limits the part to controlled indoor environments — not suitable for industrial, automotive, or outdoor deployment without additional thermal qualification.
Lifecycle and supply posture
ROHS3 compliant.
