What this 74LS octal buffer does on your board
The Texas Instruments SN74LS244DWR is a non-inverting octal buffer with 3-state outputs, built on the 74LS low-power Schottky TTL logic family. The 3-state control lets you float the outputs when another device owns the bus.
5 V only — no mixed-voltage tricks
Don't try to feed it 3.3 V — it won't switch properly, and the TTL input thresholds expect a 5 V environment. If your design has moved to 3.3 V or lower, you need a different logic family like the 74LVTH or 74LVC series.
Temperature grade: indoor and office duty
It belongs in benchtop instruments, office peripherals, consumer electronics, and telecom equipment inside a climate-controlled rack.
The 74LS family has been in production for decades, and TI continues to support it.
