14-SOIC hex inverter for 5 V logic rails
The SN74HCT04DR is a Texas Instruments 74HCT-series hex inverter — six independent NOT gates in a single 14-SOIC package. Each of the six inverters can sink or source 4 mA, which is enough to drive a standard TTL input or a low-power LED indicator. The 18 ns propagation delay at 5.5 V with a 50 pF load means it keeps up with most 5 V logic families running at a few megahertz — fine for address decoding, clock inversion, or general-purpose glue logic.
Supply rails and logic thresholds
The input logic levels are 0.8 V low and 2 V high, which are compatible with both 5 V TTL and CMOS outputs. The 2 µA quiescent current draw keeps the power budget small in always-on or battery-backed sections of a board.
