16-WQFN exposed-pad package — board integration
The SN74HCS594QWBQBRQ1 comes in a 16-WFQFN exposed-pad package (2.5x3.5mm body). The 0.5mm pitch QFN demands a solder-paste stencil aperture matched to the land pattern in TI's application note SLUA271. A four-layer board with a thermal via array under the pad is the standard layout for automotive ambient temperatures.
2V to 6V supply — single-rail flexibility
At 5V the push-pull outputs source enough current to drive LED indicators or small relays directly; at 3.3V the propagation delay is slightly higher but still within the timing budget for most SPI-like serial interfaces. The 74HCS family uses Schmitt-trigger inputs, so the serial data line tolerates slow edges from a microcontroller GPIO without external hysteresis — useful when the trace runs across a noisy automotive harness.
AEC-Q100 Grade 1 — under-hood temperature range
This covers the under-hood and chassis-mount temperature profile where the ECU sees 105°C on a summer day and still has margin to the 125°C limit.
