Quad buffer with Schmitt trigger — why it gets specified
The SN74HCS125BQAR: Each of the four independent buffers takes a single-bit input and drives a 3-state output rated for 7.8 mA source and sink. The Schmitt trigger on every input cleans up slow edges and noise.
2 V to 6 V supply — mixed-voltage glue logic
The 7.8 mA output drive at 2 V to 6 V supply range provides sufficient drive for typical logic loads.
The 125°C ceiling covers the hot side of a sealed enclosure near a power supply or motor controller. The 14-WQFN package with exposed pad helps keep the junction temperature within limits when all four buffers are switching simultaneously at high frequency.
14-WQFN footprint — what the layout engineer needs
That is a compact footprint — roughly the size of two 0603 passives side by side. The pad also provides a low-inductance ground return for the 3-state outputs, which helps keep signal integrity clean when the outputs switch into a capacitive load. No special orientation marking beyond the standard pin-1 dot; the part is symmetrical enough that a quick visual check before reflow catches a 180° rotation.
