Quad AND gate with Schmitt-trigger inputs for noise-immune logic
The SN74HCS08QDRQ1 is a quad 2-input AND gate from Texas Instruments' automotive-grade 74HCS family, featuring Schmitt-trigger inputs on all four channels.
The 12 ns maximum propagation delay at 6 V with a 50 pF load sets the data-path timing floor. At lower supply voltages the delay increases — expect roughly 20 ns at 3.3 V and 30 ns at 2 V, though the datasheet's full curve is needed for exact derating. The 7.8 mA symmetric output drive (both high and low) is enough to drive one or two standard CMOS loads but not a long bus trace or a 50 Ω backplane without a buffer. Quiescent current is 2 µA maximum — essentially leakage. This gate adds negligible static power to a battery-backed or always-on module, but the dynamic current scales with switching frequency and load capacitance, so a 10 MHz clock tree on all four gates will pull several milliamps from the supply.
Schmitt-trigger hysteresis — why it matters for real-world signals
The Schmitt-trigger inputs have a defined low-level threshold of 1 V to 3 V and a high-level threshold of 1.5 V to 4.2 V. This hysteresis — roughly 0.5 V to 1.2 V depending on supply — rejects noise on slow-rising sensor outputs, switch debounce lines, or clock signals routed near switching converters.
