The SN74HC244DBR: Each of the eight channels sources or sinks 7.8 mA, enough to drive standard CMOS inputs or a few TTL loads, but not heavy backplane traces. Two independent elements of four bits each let you gate the bus in 4-bit chunks via separate output-enable controls — useful when multiplexing data onto a shared bus where half the byte needs tri-state at different times.
