Supply voltage and temperature grade
The SN74HC241N: The wide range gives you headroom for battery-powered gear or noisy industrial rails. A panel in an unheated warehouse or a motor drive cabinet that sees 70°C on a summer afternoon still has margin.
Logic function and drive capability
Two elements per package, each handling 4 bits, for a total of 8 bits. For heavier loads like a relay coil or a long cable, you'll want a transistor or a line driver after this buffer.
20-pin DIP with 0.300-inch body width — the standard through-hole footprint that fits a breadboard or a protoboard. Pin 1 is clearly marked by a notch at the top end and a dot on the package body; no guesswork under a hot-air station. Supplied in a tube — not tape-and-reel, so it's a manual-placement part. For a rework bench, the DIP package lifts cleanly with a solder sucker or desoldering braid; the through-hole leads wick heat away from the die, so keep the iron at 315°C and dwell under 3 seconds per pin.
Compliance and documentation
ROHS3 compliant — no restricted substances above the threshold. Texas Instruments provides the standard compliance documentation (RoHS, REACH) on request through the distributor.
