What this 6-bit D-type flip-flop does
The Texas Instruments SN74HC174DR is a 6-bit positive-edge-triggered D-type flip-flop with a master reset input, in a 16-SOIC package. Each flip-flop captures the logic level on its D input on the rising edge of the clock and holds it until the next clock edge or until the master reset (MR) line is pulled low, which forces all outputs low asynchronously. The non-inverted outputs (Q) drive up to 5.2 mA per channel, typical for the 74HC family. With a clock frequency of 50 MHz and a propagation delay of 14 ns at 6 V and 50 pF load, it suits moderate-speed bus interface, register, and control logic applications where a synchronous clear function is needed.
Supply range and temperature grade
Operating from 2 V to 6 V, the SN74HC174DR covers the full HC logic supply window. The industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C allows deployment in factory automation, outdoor telecom cabinets, and automotive cabin environments. The quiescent current is only 8 µA.
Package and mounting
Housed in a 16-pin SOIC (3.90 mm width) package, the SN74HC174DR is a surface-mount part intended for reflow soldering. The body size fits most automated pick-and-place lines. No special thermal management is required.
Lifecycle and sourcing reality
For BOM planning, this part carries no LTB risk and is qualified for new designs.
