Product details

Open-drain hex inverter for wired-OR and level translation

The SN74HC05DT is a Texas Instruments 74HC-series hex inverter with open-drain outputs. Each of the six inverters can sink up to 5.2 mA when the output is low.

What the open-drain output means for your board

Because the output is open-drain, the high-level voltage is set by the pull-up resistor and its supply — not by the chip's VCC. The 5.2 mA sink current per output is enough for a typical LED or a logic input.

Lifecycle and sourcing

No end-of-life notice is on record.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SN74HC05 and SN74HC04?

The SN74HC05 has open-drain outputs; the SN74HC04 has push-pull outputs. The open-drain outputs allow wired-OR connections and level shifting to a different pull-up voltage, while the SN74HC04 drives both high and low internally.

Can SN74HC05DT be used as a level shifter?

Yes. Because the outputs are open-drain, you can pull them up to a different voltage rail than VCC. For example, run VCC at 5 V and pull up the outputs to 3.3 V to drive a 3.3 V logic input.

Is SN74HC05DT RoHS compliant?

Yes, the SN74HC05DT is ROHS3 compliant.
