What this 8:1 multiplexer is for
The SN74F151BD: It selects one of eight data sources based on a three-bit binary address and presents it at the Y output, with a complementary W output available. The 74F process gives it a propagation delay typical of the F series.
The output drive is asymmetric: 1 mA source (high) and 24 mA sink (low). That 1 mA high-level drive is enough for CMOS logic inputs but will not drive a LED or relay directly — plan a buffer or pull-up if you need more source current. The 24 mA sink is generous for the low side; it can handle a standard TTL fan-out of ten loads without issue.
It is intended for indoor, office, or consumer equipment where the ambient stays inside that range.
