Active 5V bus transceiver — lifecycle and BOM fit
The SN74BCT245N is an active-production 8-bit non-inverting transceiver from the 74BCT family, with 3-state outputs for bidirectional bus isolation.
Output drive and bus isolation
The transceiver sources 3 mA and sinks 24 mA on the standard output, with an alternate high-drive rating of 15 mA source / 64 mA sink for heavier bus loads — the higher figure is what matters when driving a heavily loaded backplane or a long trace with multiple receivers. The 3-state output enable lets the device disconnect from the bus entirely, which is essential in multiplexed or shared-bus architectures where multiple transceivers share the same data lines.
Package and board-fit for legacy through-hole
The supplier device package is 20-PDIP, which is the same mechanical outline as the 74LS245 and 74ALS245 families. Supplied in tube packaging — the tube is the standard anti-static carrier for DIP parts, suitable for hand assembly or automated insertion machines that handle tube-fed parts.
The part is ROHS3 compliant.
