Dual-supply translation for mixed-voltage buses
The SN74AVC8T245PWR is an 8-bit dual-supply translation transceiver from TI's 74AVC series, designed to bridge voltage domains between 1.2V and 3.6V on a single bus line. With two independent 8-bit elements, it handles 16-bit bidirectional data paths, making it a natural fit for memory interfaces where the controller core runs at 1.8V and the DRAM bank operates at 3.3V.
Supply range and voltage translation
The dual supply rails — VCCA and VCCB — each accept 1.2V to 3.6V independently, so the part translates bidirectionally between any two voltage levels in that window. A 1.8V logic controller talking to a 3.3V peripheral is the textbook case, but the same part also handles 1.2V-to-1.8V or 2.5V-to-3.3V without external level shifting. Each of the two elements drives 12 mA at both output high and low, which is enough to fan out to multiple loads on a short bus trace without a separate buffer. The 3-state outputs let multiple transceivers share the same data lines — a typical arrangement on a memory address bus or a shared peripheral interface. The 24-TSSOP package with 0.173-inch body width fits standard layout footprints and is offered in Tape & Reel for volume pick-and-place. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 85°C, covering industrial enclosures and telecom cabinets without a heat sink.
