What this 74AUC dual buffer is for
Each of the two elements has an open-drain output that can sink up to 9mA, making it useful for level translation, wired-OR logic, or driving low-current loads.
Supply voltage and 1.8V compatibility
The 0.8V to 2.7V supply range is the headline feature of the 74AUC family. This part is fully compatible with 1.8V logic rails — in fact, 1.8V sits comfortably in the middle of its operating window. At 1.8V the open-drain output still sinks 9mA, so it can drive a downstream 1.8V input or pull up to a higher voltage through an external resistor.
Because the outputs are open-drain (no internal pull-up), the SN74AUC2G07DBVT can be used as a level translator: the pull-up resistor connects to the target voltage rail, which can be higher than the buffer's own supply. The 9mA sink rating sets the minimum pull-up resistance — at 2.7V supply, a 300Ω resistor keeps the current under 9mA. For wired-OR or interrupt-sharing buses, the open-drain topology lets multiple outputs drive a single line without contention.
