What this 74AS AND gate does on your board
The SN74AS1008AD is a quad 2-input AND gate from TI's 74AS family, packaged in a 14-SOIC. It takes two inputs per gate and outputs their logical AND — a basic building block for address decoding, enable gating, or clock conditioning in 5 V digital systems. The 74AS series uses advanced Schottky technology for higher speed than standard 74LS, with a propagation delay of 6 ns at 5 V driving a 50 pF load.
Output drive — 48 mA symmetric
Each output sources or sinks 48 mA, which is double what a standard 74LS gate delivers. That means this gate can drive a bank of LED indicators, a short unterminated transmission line, or multiple CMOS inputs without an external buffer. On a backplane or long trace, the 48 mA sink capability keeps the logic-low voltage within the 0.8 V threshold margin even with moderate capacitive loading.
Lifecycle and compliance
It is RoHS3 compliant, which covers the EU RoHS directive without exemptions. For a BOM line, this means no immediate obsolescence risk and no compliance paperwork gap for European or North American markets.
