ALS-series XOR gate — still in active production
The SN74ALS136N is a single 2-input XOR gate from Texas Instruments' ALS (Advanced Low-Power Schottky) logic family. It performs the exclusive-OR function on two inputs, delivering a high output when the inputs differ. The ALS series balances speed and power for 5 V TTL systems, and this gate is specified for the commercial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C.
RoHS non-compliant — plan accordingly
This part is marked RoHS non-compliant, meaning it contains lead and does not meet the EU RoHS directive. For legacy BOMs or repair work that allows leaded solder, that's fine. For new designs requiring RoHS compliance, you'll need to look at the lead-free ALS or AHCT equivalents. The lifecycle status is Active, so TI is still manufacturing it — no last-time-buy pressure.
Bulk package — rework-friendly
That's a plus for the rework bench: no carrier tape to deal with, and the DIP package is easy to hand-solder or hot-air remove. The wide pin spacing and through-hole leads mean you can lift the part without lifting the pad, even with a basic iron.
