Quad AND in a 14-SOIC body
The SN74ALS08NSR packs four independent 2-input AND gates into a 14-SOIC package — 0.209-inch wide body, 5.30 mm width, the standard SOIC-14 footprint that reflows cleanly and probes easily on a scope adapter. Supply range is 4.5 V to 5.5 V, the classic 5 V TTL rail. Input thresholds are TTL-compatible: 0.8 V low, 2 V high, so it sits directly on a 5 V backplane without level translation.
Output drive and timing
Output current is 400 µA sourcing, 8 mA sinking — the sink side drives a standard TTL load or a 74ALS input fan-out of about 20, while the source side is lighter, meant for driving CMOS inputs or pull-up resistors. Max propagation delay is 14 ns at 5 V with a 50 pF load — that is the worst-case pin-to-pin delay through one gate. For a 5 V system clocked at 33 MHz, the gate delay eats about half a clock period of setup margin, so budget it in the timing closure. Operating temperature is 0°C to 70°C, commercial grade. This part lives in office equipment, test gear, and indoor control boards — not under the hood or on a rooftop.
Package and rework reality
14-SOIC with 1.27 mm pitch — the leads are visible and accessible. A hot-air station at 300°C with a fine nozzle lifts the part clean if the pads are tinned; the body is small enough that both sides heat evenly. Pin 1 is marked by a dot on the top of the package, and the 14-SO outline is symmetric, so orientation is easy to confirm before reflow. Available in Tape & Reel or Cut Tape — the reel format is standard for pick-and-place; Cut Tape works for prototype runs or small-batch builds.
Sourcing and lifecycle
ROHS3 compliant — no restricted substances in the package or plating. The lead finish is matte tin, which mates well with SAC solder profiles.
