The SN74ALS04BNSR is a hex inverter from the 74ALS family, packing six independent inverter gates in a 14-SOIC (0.209", 5.30mm width) surface-mount package. Each gate accepts a single input and delivers the inverted logic level at the output.

Maximum propagation delay is 11ns at 5V with a 50pF load — this sets the ceiling for how fast data can ripple through the inverter chain. For a 5V bus running at 20 MHz (50 ns period), the 11ns delay consumes about 22% of the cycle, leaving margin for setup and hold at the receiving gate. Output drive is specified as 400 µA source and 8 mA sink at the logic high and low levels respectively. The asymmetric drive means the inverter can sink a standard TTL load but sources only lightly — fan-out to CMOS inputs is fine; driving a 50-ohm backplane trace is not in scope. Input logic thresholds are 0.8V for low and 2V for high, which is TTL-compatible.
