It provides eight non-inverting channels with 3-state outputs, each sourcing or sinking 8mA.
The 8mA output drive per channel is typical for the AHC family — enough to drive standard CMOS inputs, LEDs, or a few low-power loads, but not designed for high-fanout backplanes or long parallel buses. If your bus needs to drive more than a handful of loads, you will need to buffer or step up to the ABT or LVT families which offer higher current. The 3-state outputs allow multiple transceivers to share a bus line without contention, which is standard for multiplexed address/data buses in automotive ECUs or industrial controllers.
For designs that need to survive cold cranking or exhaust-adjacent heat, this grade is the floor, not the ceiling.
For volume production, this is a stable line item with no imminent obsolescence risk.
