Supply voltage range — 2V to 5.5V
The 2V to 5.5V supply range means this part works on 3.3V and 5V rails without a level translator. At 3.3V the input thresholds track the supply ratio, so a 3.3V CMOS logic output drives it cleanly. At 5V the noise margin improves for longer backplane traces. The wide range also covers 2.5V and 1.8V logic domains if the application runs a 2V minimum supply.
8mA output drive — what it means for fan-out
Each output sources or sinks 8mA, which is enough to drive up to eight standard LSTTL loads or feed a short unterminated PCB trace. For longer traces or higher capacitive loads (above 50pF), the rise time degrades — the 74AHC family is optimized for low power, not high current. If the board needs to drive 50-ohm backplanes or multiple parallel inputs, step up to the 74ABT or 74LVTH series with 32mA drive.
