Octal buffer/inverter with 3-state outputs
The SN74AHC240NSR from Texas Instruments is an octal buffer and line driver with inverting logic and 3-state outputs, part of the 74AHC family. It contains two elements of four bits each, giving eight total channels for bus-oriented or memory-address driving applications. Output sink and source are each rated 8 mA, enough to drive a standard CMOS load or a few TTL inputs on a short backplane trace.
Package and board-fit: 20-SOIC wide body
Housed in a 20-SOIC wide-body package (0.209-inch body width, 5.30 mm), the SN74AHC240NSR uses the standard SOIC-20W footprint with 1.27 mm pitch. The supplier device package is designated 20-SO, and the mounting is surface-mount only. The wide SOIC body is easier to hand-solder and inspect than a narrow SOIC or SSOP — a practical advantage for rework or prototype builds where fine-pitch inspection is a bottleneck.
