Dual 2:4 decoder for address decoding and demux tasks
The SN74AHC139D is a dual 2:4 decoder/demultiplexer from the 74AHC family, packing two independent 1-of-4 decoders in a single 16-SOIC package. Each section selects one of four active-low outputs based on a 2-bit address input, making it a go-to part for memory-mapped I/O decoding, LED matrix row selection, or routing a data stream to one of four destinations. Outputs source or sink 8mA each — enough to drive a standard logic input or a low-current LED directly.
Temperature range and package for bench and field
The 16-SOIC package (3.90mm body width) is a hand-solderable surface-mount footprint; with a fine-tip iron and some flux, a hobbyist can breadboard it on an adapter board without a reflow oven.
