8-bit bus transceiver for 5V backplanes
The SN74ACT245N is an 8-bit non-inverting transceiver from the 74ACT family, with 3-state outputs that isolate the bus when the output-enable pin is deasserted. It handles bidirectional data flow between two 8-bit buses under direction control. Operating from a 4.5V to 5.5V supply, it sources and sinks 24mA per output — enough to drive a heavily loaded backplane or a bank of TTL inputs without external buffers.
Through-hole DIP package — legacy board fit
Housed in a 20-pin DIP (0.300" width, 7.62mm row spacing), the SN74ACT245N is a through-hole part that drops into existing 0.100" pitch sockets or wave-solder pads. The supplier device package is 20-PDIP. For a board that already routes 5V logic and has a 20-pin DIP footprint, this is a direct drop-in — no layout change needed from a legacy 74ACT245 or 74HCT245.
Active lifecycle, no LTB pressure
The 74ACT series is a mature logic family with broad installed base; availability is stable through franchised and independent channels. Quoted to order against BOM quantity.
