Single LVDS receiver for point-to-point links
It accepts a low-voltage differential signal (LVDS) on its input and outputs a CMOS-level signal, making it a straightforward interface between a serial backplane or cable and a logic-level controller.
The 400 Mbps data rate is the receiver's maximum switching speed, not a typical operating point. In practice, this means the SN65LVDS2D can cleanly recover a 200 MHz clock or a 400 Mbps NRZ data stream with adequate setup-and-hold margin. For a backplane running at 100 Mbps or a camera serial interface at 250 Mbps, the 400 Mbps ceiling gives headroom for cable length, connector losses, and jitter accumulation without needing a faster (and more expensive) receiver. The 0/1 driver/receiver count confirms this is a unidirectional receive-only part — pair it with an LVDS driver like the SN65LVDS1 for a complete link.
Supply range and 3.3 V compatibility
At 3.3 V the receiver's input common-mode range and output swing are fully within spec. No external level shifter is needed when the controller runs at 3.3 V CMOS — the receiver's output is LVTTL/LVCMOS compatible across the supply range.
The SN65LVDS2D and its tape-and-reel sibling SN65LVDS2DR share the same die and electrical specs — the only difference is the shipping medium (tube vs. tape-and-reel). If your pick-and-place line prefers reel, order the SN65LVDS2DR instead; the footprint and performance are identical.
