What this LVDS buffer/multiplexer does
The Texas Instruments SN65LVDS116DGG is a 1:16 LVDS buffer and multiplexer that takes a single LVDS input and fans it out to sixteen LVDS outputs. It is designed for clock and data distribution in systems that need to drive multiple LVDS loads from one source — think backplane repeaters, telecom line cards, or test equipment that distributes a high-speed serial signal across several boards.
At 400 Mbps the part can distribute a 200 MHz clock or a serial data stream at that line rate. The 3.1 ns delay is the pin-to-pin propagation through the buffer; in a timing-sensitive backplane you need to account for that in the skew budget. Input capacitance is 5 pF, which keeps the loading light on the driving source. Supply current is 84 mA typical — a known draw for power-rail sizing.
