What this buffer/re-driver does on a high-speed serial link
It's the part you reach for when a serial link running at up to 2 Gbps needs a clean re-transmission — think backplane clock distribution, cable extension, or fan-out in test equipment. The 630 ps propagation delay is tight enough that you can budget it into a multi-drop chain without losing the timing window.
Input flexibility and output drive — what the signal chain needs
The input stage accepts three common differential standards — CML, LVDS, and LVPECL — so this single part can sit behind a variety of serializer, FPGA, or oscillator outputs without a level-shifter. The output is LVPECL only, which means the downstream receiver must be LVPECL-compatible or you add a termination network. The input capacitance is only 0.6 pF, which minimizes loading on the driving source and preserves signal integrity at 2 Gbps.
