Quad LVDS driver at 400 Mbps — what the rating buys you
The Texas Instruments SN65LVDS047PWR is a quad-channel LVDS driver in a 16-TSSOP package, designed to push serial data at 400 Mbps per lane over twisted-pair or PCB traces. The 4/0 driver/receiver count means it is a pure transmit-side part — four differential outputs, no receive path on-chip. That 400 Mbps data rate is the per-channel switching limit; for a 24-bit parallel bus serialised onto four lanes, the effective throughput lands at 1.6 Gbps aggregate, which covers most 720p video links, high-speed camera interfaces, or backplane data moves inside a chassis.
The 16-TSSOP body (4.40 mm width, 0.173" pitch) is a common fine-pitch SOIC footprint. Surface-mount only — no through-hole variant. The supply decoupling should sit within 2 mm of the VCC pin; the datasheet recommends 0.1 µF ceramic per supply pin. No exposed thermal pad on this package, so the junction-to-ambient thermal path relies on the leadframe and PCB copper. For a 400 Mbps signal, keep the differential trace pair impedance at 100 Ω and the length mismatch under 5 mm per 100 mm of trace.
