Quad LVDS driver for 400 Mbps serial backplanes
The Texas Instruments SN65LVDS047DG4 is a quad-channel LVDS driver in the 65LVDS series, delivering 400 Mbps per channel over differential pairs. Four drivers, no receivers — it is the transmit half of a point-to-point or multidrop link, sized for high-speed backplane, cable, and clock distribution applications where signal integrity matters at 3.3 V.
400 Mbps per channel — what that means for bus margin
The 400 Mbps data rate is the per-channel switching limit. In a typical 16-bit parallel LVDS link you get 3.2 Gbps aggregate throughput across the four drivers. For a 100 MHz pixel clock or a 200 MHz serialised data stream, this part leaves roughly 2x margin before the eye closes — enough headroom to tolerate a few inches of FR4 trace without equalisation. The differential swing is standard LVDS (350 mV typical into 100 Ω), so termination is a single 100 Ω resistor across each receiver pair at the far end.
16-SOIC footprint and surface-mount assembly
Housed in a 16-SOIC (3.90 mm body width) package, the SN65LVDS047DG4 mounts on standard 1.27 mm pitch SOIC footprints. No thermal pad — junction-to-ambient thermal resistance is managed by the copper pour area under the package.
