RS-485 transceiver for industrial twisted-pair links
The 250 kbps data rate is intentionally slew-limited to reduce radiated emissions on long cable runs. At this speed the driver edges are controlled enough that external filtering is often unnecessary for Class B compliance, but the trade-off is that it will not support the higher throughput of a 50 Mbps part like the SN65HVD78DGKR. If your application needs to burst sensor data faster than 250 kbps, that sibling is the one to evaluate.
The receiver hysteresis of 80 mV provides good noise margin on a loaded bus, which matters when the cable runs through a noisy industrial bay.
Package and thermal: 8-SON (3x3) with exposed pad
This is a surface-mount device, so reflow profile and pad stencil design follow standard SON guidelines.
