What this RS-485 transceiver brings to the bus
The Texas Instruments SN65HVD32DR is a full-duplex RS-422/RS-485 transceiver in an 8-SOIC package, handling one driver and one receiver on a single 3.3 V supply rail. It hits 1 Mbps on the bus, which is the sweet spot for industrial fieldbus links like Modbus RTU or Profibus at that speed — fast enough for most sensor and actuator networks without the edge-rate headaches of faster parts. The 50 mV of receiver hysteresis cleans up noise on long cable runs, so you get a clean logic output even when the differential signal has picked up common-mode junk.
If your board runs a 5 V bus, you will need a level translator or a different transceiver. It is not AEC-Q100 qualified, so skip it for under-hood or chassis-mounted automotive designs.
