The 30 mV of receiver hysteresis helps keep the bus clean on long cable runs where common-mode noise is a problem.
If your microcontroller or UART is 3.3V, you'll need a level shifter or a different transceiver. The 5V rail also means the driver output swing meets the RS-485 standard's minimum differential voltage without breaking a sweat.
It belongs in factory-floor PLCs, HVAC controllers, motor drives, and outdoor telecom cabinets — anywhere the ambient temperature swings and the bus needs to keep talking. Not rated for automotive under-hood use (no AEC-Q100), but fine for most building and industrial control panels.
