1 Mbps data rate and 200 mV hysteresis — what they mean on the bus
At 1 Mbps the SN65HVD255DR runs the full CAN 2.0 bit rate, so it keeps up with high-speed sensor arrays and actuator networks without bit-stuffing bottlenecks. The 200 mV receiver hysteresis is the key spec for noise margin: on a long twisted-pair run with motor drives nearby, that hysteresis prevents the receiver from toggling on coupled transients. If the bus sees less than 200 mV of differential noise, the output stays clean. For 5V CAN systems this part plugs straight in — no level shifting needed on the bus side.
No end-of-life notice, no last-time-buy deadline to track. The 8-SOIC footprint is a common one across the TI CAN family, so if a future redesign needs a different feature set the board layout doesn't have to change.
