RS-485/RS-422 transceiver in a through-hole DIP
25 Mbps and 130 mV hysteresis — what they mean on the bus
The 25 Mbps data rate supports high-speed polling or streaming between PLCs, drives, and remote I/O nodes over twisted-pair cable. At this rate the bus length is limited by cable attenuation and termination — expect reliable links up to roughly 50–100 meters, depending on cable quality and stub length. The 130 mV hysteresis on the receiver input filters out noise and ringing on the differential pair, which matters when the cable runs alongside motor drives or VFDs. A lower-hysteresis part would chatter on the same layout. The through-hole PDIP package is a rework-friendly choice for prototype boards, legacy maintenance, or applications where vibration resistance from a socketed DIP is preferred over a surface-mount package.
For a BOM line that uses this DIP-8 transceiver, there is no urgency to qualify a substitute or stockpile ahead of a discontinuation.
