CAN bus workhorse for harsh environments
The Texas Instruments SN65HVD234DRG4 is a half-duplex CAN transceiver built for the 3.3 V supply domain, handling the 1 Mbps data rate that standard CAN 2.0 networks expect. The 100 mV receiver hysteresis cleans up noise on a long twisted pair, so you don't lose a frame to a glitch on the cable.
If your microcontroller runs on 5 V, this transceiver still works — the CAN bus pins tolerate the higher common-mode — but you'll need level shifting on the TXD/RXD lines or a 5 V-tolerant MCU. The 8-SOIC footprint is a standard one, so a board respin for this part is a quick swap if the existing layout already has a CAN transceiver in that package.
