Hermetic CAN transceiver for extreme environments
The 140 mV receiver hysteresis provides good noise margin on a loaded bus.
The 8-CDIP (ceramic dual in-line) package is the key differentiator. Unlike the plastic SOIC or PDIP versions of the 65HVD233 family, this hermetic package is intended for environments where standard plastic packages would fail — downhole drilling, engine bay-mounted electronics, satellite or avionics where outgassing or moisture ingress is a concern. The through-hole mounting suits point-to-point wiring in a module or a backplane rather than a dense SMT PCB.
Supply and logic-level compatibility
It is not directly 5V-tolerant on the supply, but the logic interface pins are typically 5V-tolerant on this family — confirm in the full datasheet if your controller runs at 5V. The single driver/receiver pair (1/1) is the standard CAN node configuration.
Active lifecycle, but channel matters
However, the hermetic CDIP package is a specialty variant — it is not a high-volume commodity line. Most large distributors stock the plastic SOIC (SN65HVD233D) in depth; the SJD variant moves through smaller-volume, high-reliability channels. If you are qualifying this for a long-life program, lock in a forecast quantity now; the lead time can stretch when the ceramic package runs through a limited production window.
