At 25 Mbps the SN65HVD20DR can push a full-duplex RS-422 link across tens of metres of twisted pair before signal degradation forces a lower rate or a repeater. For RS-485 multi-drop networks the practical cable length at 25 Mbps is shorter — roughly 10 to 20 metres depending on stub length and termination — because reflections and common-mode loading accumulate with each node. The 130 mV hysteresis helps the receiver stay clean on a noisy factory floor.
5 V supply only — not a 3.3 V part
It is not rated for 3.3 V operation. If your system runs a 3.3 V bus, look at the SN65HVD23x family or the SN65HVD178x series, which include 3.3 V compatible options with similar data rates. The 5 V rail gives better noise margin on the differential bus, but it rules out direct connection to a 3.3 V UART without level translation.
