Product details

10 Mbps data rate and half-duplex bus

At 10 Mbps the SN65HVD1787DR supports high-speed polling or data transfer over a single twisted pair. Half-duplex operation means the driver and receiver share the same bus wires; the driver enable pin (DE) must be toggled by the host UART or GPIO to switch direction. The 50 mV of receiver hysteresis provides clean switching on long cables where signal edges may be degraded by reflections or DC offsets.

Supply voltage and 5V system compatibility

It can be used directly with 5 V microcontrollers without level shifting on the logic interface. For 3.3 V systems, the logic inputs are not 3.3 V-tolerant at the full supply range — a level translator or a 3.3 V-rated RS485 part would be the correct choice.

Housed in an 8-pin SOIC package (body 3.90 mm wide), the SN65HVD1787DR is a drop-in replacement for many industry-standard half-duplex RS485 transceivers in the same footprint.
