The SN65HVD1785P: If you are maintaining a legacy BOM that already uses this part, the supply channel remains open through standard distribution.
This is a single-driver, single-receiver half-duplex transceiver for RS-422 and RS-485 networks. The 115 kbps data rate is the ceiling. The 50 mV of receiver hysteresis cleans up noise on longer cable runs.
5 V supply only — not a 3.3 V part
If your system is 3.3 V only, this part will not work — you would need a 3.3 V RS-485 transceiver like the SN65HVD1781 or a level shifter. On a mixed-voltage board, the logic inputs are 5 V tolerant, but the VCC must be 5 V for the driver to meet the RS-485 output levels.
Through-hole PDIP — for prototyping and legacy boards
Packaged in an 8-pin PDIP (0.300 inch body), this is a through-hole part. It is a natural fit for breadboard prototyping, point-to-point wiring, and repairing older equipment where the PCB layout expects a DIP socket.
Temperature grade: industrial, not automotive
It is not AEC-Q100 qualified, so it is not the right choice for under-hood automotive or other high-reliability automotive applications unless you do your own qualification.
