Dropping it into a 3.3 V bus system requires a level translator or a separate 5 V supply. The 40 Mbps data rate is achievable over short twisted-pair runs; at longer cable lengths the practical bit rate drops due to signal attenuation, but the driver's differential output voltage stays within RS-485 levels across the full temperature range.
