It interfaces a CAN protocol controller with the physical differential bus, handling the drive and receive functions for a single node.
Receiver hysteresis and noise margin
With 125 mV of receiver hysteresis, the SN65HVD1050DRG4 rejects common-mode noise on the CAN bus without external filtering. This is a practical margin for industrial floors where motor drives and inverters inject common-mode transients into the cabling. The hysteresis value is baked into the receiver's comparator design, so the bus stays quiet through signal transitions.
The 125°C upper limit is the junction temperature, so derating for self-heating at full bus load is already accounted for in the datasheet's thermal curves.
The "DRG4" suffix indicates the tape-and-reel shipping format, but the device itself is the same die as the base 65HVD1050 family.
