CAN transceiver for 5V bus nodes

Half-duplex bus topology and the 5V rail
Half-duplex operation is standard for CAN – the bus is shared for transmit and receive, so the transceiver's driver and receiver are never active simultaneously. If your design uses a 3.3V CAN controller, the SN65HVD1050DR's 5V supply means you'll need level translation on the TXD/RXD lines; the part itself does not include an internal voltage regulator. The 125 mV hysteresis on the receiver input filters out noise on the differential bus, which is useful in motor-drive or inverter environments where common-mode transients are common.
