PDM microphone hub for multichannel audio capture
The PCMD3140IRTER is a four-channel audio ADC that converts PDM (pulse-density modulation) microphone streams into a TDM (time-division multiplexed) output, handling up to 768 kHz sampling per channel with resolution selectable from 16 to 32 bits. It communicates over I²C for control and I²S or TDM for audio data, making it a direct fit for digital microphone arrays in smart speakers, conferencing systems, and far-field voice capture where multiple mics need synchronised capture on a single bus.
Supply rails and temperature grade
Dual-supply operation — 1.7 V to 1.9 V for the digital core and 3 V to 3.6 V for the analog and microphone bias — lets the digital rail run from a low-voltage SoC supply while keeping the analog side at the 3.3 V level PDM mics expect. Rated across -40°C to 125°C ambient, the device suits automotive cabin or industrial enclosures where the board temperature cycles beyond commercial limits.
Package and integration
Housed in a 20-WFQFN with exposed pad (3 mm × 3 mm), the package requires a thermal land on the PCB to pull heat from the die — the pad should be soldered to a copper plane, not left floating, to keep junction temperature within the -40°C to 125°C operating range. Surface-mount assembly with the exposed pad means the reflow profile must follow the JEDEC J-STD-020 moisture sensitivity level for the package; the part ships in Tape & Reel or Cut Tape options.
