The 8-DIP through-hole package (8-PDIP) is a legacy footprint that suits prototyping, low-volume production, and field-repair sockets where a reflow oven is not available.
27 µA per channel — the micropower anchor
Each of the two amplifiers draws 27 µA of supply current, for a total of 54 µA quiescent from the rail. That is the defining spec: this part exists to keep the analog front-end power budget under 100 µA while still delivering 50 mA of output drive per channel. The 2.7 V to 36 V supply span means it can run from a single lithium cell, a 12 V industrial rail, or a split ±15 V supply without a separate regulator.
