What the 100 kHz ceiling means on the bench

The NA555DR is a single 555-type timer/oscillator rated for a maximum oscillation frequency of 100 kHz. If your design needs astable operation at 120 kHz, this part will not hold frequency tolerance; the output period drifts as the timing capacitor charges through the internal discharge transistor's on-resistance, which shifts with temperature. Supply current is 10 mA typical at 5 V — that is the current the IC itself draws, not the load it drives. On a board where the 5 V rail is shared with a microcontroller and a few op-amps, that 10 mA is a known constant; it does not spike during output transitions the way a comparator's supply current can. The 10 mA figure is the same whether the output is high or low, so the thermal dissipation in the 8-SOIC package is predictable: at 16 V supply, the IC dissipates roughly 160 mW, well within the 8-SOIC's thermal capability without airflow.
