The exposed pad carries the bulk of the die heat; without a grid of via stitches to the ground plane, junction temperature climbs faster than expected above 50°C ambient, even though the core draw is modest. The 24 I/O are all 5 V tolerant on this family, which simplifies level translation when interfacing to legacy 5 V logic or sensors.
