16 MHz and 8 KB Flash — sizing the firmware envelope
The 16 MHz core speed is enough for real-time control loops in the 10–100 kHz range, but not for high-rate data acquisition or heavy protocol stacks. For designs that need more headroom, the MSP430G2xx family offers pin-compatible parts with up to 16 KB Flash and 512 bytes RAM — the same footprint, same supply range, same debug interface. If you are already at 80% Flash utilisation, budget for a spin to a larger member before production ramp.
Package and mounting — 14-TSSOP, field-swap friendly
The MSP430G2402IPW14 comes in a 14-lead TSSOP (4.40 mm width) with a 0.65 mm pitch — small enough for a compact PCB but still hand-solderable with a fine-tip iron and magnification. The supplier device package is 14-TSSOP, surface-mount only.
