At 16 MHz the MSP430 CPU16 executes most instructions in one or two clock cycles, so worst-case ISR latency and loop throughput are predictable. Pair it with the internal oscillator to save a crystal and two PCB traces; the internal oscillator is rated over the full temperature range, so no external clock source is needed for many applications. If your firmware exceeds 2 KB, move up the MSP430G2xx density ladder — this part is the entry point.
