FRAM memory: the reason to pick this MSP430 over a Flash variant
The MSP430FR6870IPMR: Its headline feature is 32 KB of FRAM program memory — a unified non-volatile storage that combines the fast write speed and low power of RAM with the retention of Flash. There is no separate EEPROM block because FRAM handles both code and data, and it can be byte- or word-written without an erase cycle.
Integrated LCD controller — one less external driver on the BOM
A built-in LCD peripheral is part of the peripheral set, alongside the usual brown-out detect, DMA, PWM, and watchdog timer. For a segmented LCD display (common in utility meters, thermostats, and handheld instruments), this eliminates the cost and board area of a separate display driver IC.
The 8-channel, 12-bit ADC handles analog sensor inputs.
Package and footprint: 64-LQFP
Housed in a 64-pin LQFP (10x10 mm body), surface-mount only.
Lifecycle and sourcing
For new designs, this means no LTB risk and normal lead times through the distribution channel.
